Thai Government approves Brown Line monorail PPP project

The Government of Thailand through the Land Traffic Management Commission has approved the THB48.38 billion (US$1.51 billion) Brown Line monorail project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investment scheme. 

The project involves the development of the 22-km monorail project located in Bangkok, Thailand. The project will have 20 stations and links the Khae Rai in Nonthaburi to Lam Sali in Bangkok. It will also connect with seven other lines consist of the Purple Line ((Tao Poon-Klong Bang Phai in the western suburbs), the Pink Line (Khae Rai-Min Buri in eastern Bangkok), the Red Line (Bang Sue-Rangsit), the Green Line (Mor Chit-Khu Khot in Pathum Thani), the Grey Line (Watcharaphon to Rama IX Bridge), the Yellow Line (Lat Phrao-Samrong in Samut Prakan) and the Orange Line (Thailand Cultural Centre-Min Buri). 

The monorail project development includes THB7.25 billion (US$225.8 million) for expropriation costs, THB34.67 billion (US$1.08 billion) for construction costs, THB1.25 (US$38.9 million)  consultant costs, and THB5.2 billion (US$161.9 million) for other costs. 

The Brown Line project will have 20 stations commencing from the Khae Rai intersection, the route will head east along Ngam Wong Wan Road towards Bang Khen and the Kasetsart intersection. Continuing along Prasert Manoonkij road, the route will take a southbound right turn at the Nawaminintersection, towards Bang Kapi and will end at the Lam Sali intersection. It will act as feeder system for the seven larger routes. 

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will handle the design and construction works of the project.
