Transport for London (TfL) in the UK has reached an agreement with the Department of Transportation to stop ongoing design and consultancy works for the Crossrail 2 PPP project under the bailout package for the TfL. The government has announced a funding package of GBP 1.7 billion to GBP 1.8 billion (US$ 2.25 to 2.38 billion) to help survive the TfL from the financial difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the terms of the six-month funding package from the government, TfL has to bring an end to consultancy works for the crossrail 2 project.
The consultancy works will be halted until March 31, 2021. The Crossrail 2 transportation network project connects the National Rail networks in Surrey and Hertfordshire via new tunnels and stations between Wimbledon, Tottenham Hale, and New Southgate, linking in with London Underground, London Overground, Crossrail 1, national and international rail services.
