The State government has given administrative approval and released INR 47 million (US$ 564, 272) to implement the Tribal Livelihood Park Through People’s Eco-Tourism at Pachamalai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Pachamalai spans approximately 528 sq km and is situated at elevations ranging from 160 to 1,072 meters above sea level. Among its notable features are the Periyapakkalam and Korayaru waterfalls. The hills harbor a diverse ecosystem, hosting 154 bird species and 135 butterfly varieties. Additionally, there are three deer habitats housing a total of 500 deer. As part of the initiative, the Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Forest Department and the Rural Development Department, will develop essential infrastructure and safety measures for tourists at significant sites like the Koraiyar and Mangalam Falls in Pachamalai. This includes constructing tree houses, establishing forest/nature walks, creating trekking trails along the Chinna Mangalam and Koraiyar Falls, building rest sheds and resting areas for trekkers, establishing parking lots, and setting up entrance counters.
