The Ministry of Public Works has published a call for tender for the concession of the new 63,570 square meter Talca prison facility in Chile.
The initiative involves an investment of nearly US$56 million in managing a prison facility designed for 2,320 inmates. Constructed by the MOP Architecture Directorate, the facility will be under concession for nearly 30 years, with the primary objectives of enhancing security services, increasing capacity for the prison population, and providing support services for social reintegration, health, and food. The new Talca Penitentiary Establishment features 14 confinement modules categorized based on the risk level of its population, a security strip equipped with eight surveillance booths and controlled vehicular access, a school emphasizing the social reintegration of incarcerated individuals, a penal health unit, and a food production center catering to both inmates and Chilean Gendarmerie officials.
The next phase involves the reception of technical offers scheduled for May 24, 2024, followed by the unveiling of economic offers on June 25, 2024, with the project expected to be awarded in Q4 of 2024. A partial commencement of operations is estimated for 2024, accommodating around 400 inmates, with full operation anticipated in 2025.
