Transport For Greater Manchester (TfGM), Wigan MBC, and Network Rail, have sought to appoint a suitably experienced Main Contractor for the Detailed Design, Construction, and Handover of the works at the agreed Golborne Station site.
The new station will be situated on the existing electrified track of the West Coast Mainline (WCML) near the former Golborne station site. It will be served by an hourly train service between Wigan North Western and Manchester Victoria. The Golborne project is part of the broader Wigan masterplan, which includes highway and public realm improvements aimed at optimizing the adjacent car park, improving traffic flow and junction layouts, and enhancing active travel and pedestrian facilities within the Golborne town center. TfGM has appointed WSP to complete the outline design which is due to be completed in September 2024.
A two-stage approach to the procurement and delivery of the Detailed Design to PACE ES5 and Construction Phase ES5 - ES8 is being implemented, as follows:
