Tender launched for USD6.3 billion MRT Train PPP project in Thailand

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has launched a tender process seeking a private developer for the MRT Orange Line (West Section) train PPP project.

The project involves the development of a rapid mass transit system with a total length of 39.6 km, which is divided into 2 sections, the MRT West Orange Line (Bang Khun Non-Thailand Cultural Centre Section) and the MRT East Orange Line (Thailand Cultural Centre -Min Buri (Suwinthawong)). The project route includes a 27 km long underground structure and 8.9 km long elevated structure with 28 stations along the route, of which 21 are underground stations and 7 are elevated stations.

This tender is only for the development of the West Section. The public sector is responsible for land acquisition costs, while the private sector will cover the costs of civil works, the mechanical and electrical systems, rolling stocks as well as operation and maintenance of the West Section project. The operation period will be 30 years.
