Ministry of Transport in Argentina has launched tender for operation and maintenance of two railway lines - Belgrano Norte and Urquiza train line. The project includes operation, maintenance and improvement work on both train line in Buenos Aires. The improvements include incorporation of rolling stock, renewal of roads, maintenance and repair workshops, stations, signage systems, communications, and other works.
Belgrano Norte line joins Villa Rosa (Pilar) in the northwest of Buenos Aires, with Retiro, passing through the Malvinas Argentinas, Tigre, San Isidro, and Vicente López. Daily approx. 95,000 people travel on Belgrano Norte line.
Urquiza line joins General Lemos, San Miguel, Tres de Febrero, San Martín and city of Buenos Aires. Daily approx. 75,000 people travel on Urquiza train line.
The maintenance term for the project is 15 years for both lines. In last year both lines maintenance concession expired, and it was extended for a year to facilitate the new tendering process. Ferrovías has been the operator of the Belgrano Norte line and Metrovías has been the operator of Urquiza line.
