Infraestruturas de Portugal has announced that the international tender for the first portion of the high-speed rail (HSR) line between Lisbon and Porto is now open in Portugal.

The initial segment of this track will establish a link between Porto and Oiã in the Aveiro district, covering a distance of 70 km. The construction is estimated at EUR 1.95 billion (USD 2.1 billion) and will function as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The development of the HSR connecting Lisbon and Porto is divided into three phases:

  • the first one connecting Porto and Soure (comprising Porto-Oiã and Oiã-Soure);
  • the second phase linking Soure and Carregado; and subsequently,
  • the connection between Carregado and Lisbon will be constructed.
