The Ministry of Public Works of Chile has published the call for bids for the third concession of road access for Arturo Merino Benítez Airport. The concession is aimed to improve the entry and exit routes to the main airport terminal and develop new access on the north side. The road is around 10 km long and is located in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago. The estimated investment for the project is CLF843,000 (US$32,6 million).
The scope of works for the road access includes the following:
- To increase dual carriageway capacity with two lanes in each direction in the section between Lo Marcoleta and Enlace Estero Las Cruces (subsector B2);
- To build a new single carriageway of 2.1 km along the north bank to Estero Las Cruces, connecting Enlace Las Cruces with the north sector of the airport and the road to the west of the airport (subsectors B3 and B4);
- To link the North Access to the airport and Las Lilas road;
- To build 3 bridges- Estero Las Cruces, Estero Las Cruces 2 y Lo Boza, and an underground pass Estero Las Cruces;
- To implement an electronic toll and manual collection system in the North Access to the airport;
- To develop intersections, walkways, bike paths, signaling and road safety, lighting, bus stops and other road elements.
