Tender issued for USD3.94 billion broadband PPP project in India

Bharat Broadband Network Limited in India has launched a request for proposal (RFP) seeking a private partner to develop a broadband PPP project named BharatNet. The private partner will be responsible for the Creation, Upgradation, Operation & Maintenance and Utilization of Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) network (underground and aerial), radio network or any alternate medium (where fibre laying is not feasible), along with electronics infrastructure including Network Operation Centre (NOC)  in 16 states of India.

The project is divided into the following nine packages : 

  • Package 1: States of Kerala, Karnataka 
  • Package 2: Uttar Pradesh East
  • Package 3: Uttar Pradesh West
  • Package 4: Rajasthan
  • Package 5: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh
  • Package 6: West Bengal
  • Package 7: North East - I (Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya) and North East - II (Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland)
  • Package 8: Assam
  • Package 9: Madhya Pradesh

Each Package is an individual bid and separate RFPs are issued for each of the Packages. The total estimated cost of projects is INR29,432 crores (USD3.94 billion).
