The Saudi Electricity Co. has extended the tender deadline for the contract to develop the Saudi-Jordanian Interconnector project in Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
The selected contractor will be responsible for the construction of a high-voltage direct current converter station, a 400-kV gas-insulated switchgear substation, and a 400-kV overhead transmission line. The transmission interconnector connects the power grids of Jordan and Saudi Arabia via a 164-km-long line from Qurayyat (Saudi Arabia) to East Amman (Jordan). The proposed power link is expected to exchange an estimated 500 MW of electricity between the two countries daily, with a possibility to eventually increase the capacity to 1,000 MW.
The tender closing date has been extended by 2 months to the end of July.
