The Mongolian government has announced a tender for developing the Ulaanbaatar metro.
The metro will constitute a singular 18 km line, with 7 km of it operating underground. From Sonsgolon Intersection to Amgalan Market, the line encompasses 14 stations spaced approximately 1.3 km apart. Operating at an average speed of 39 km/h, it can accommodate up to 17,000 passengers per hour. Financed through loans from Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) conducted a feasibility study in 2013. Although the project was halted in 2015, planning resumed in 2018, with a cost of around US$1.5 billion.
The tender is set to close on March 18, 2024, with the city allocating approximately US$54 million for consulting services throughout the project. Construction is slated to commence in May 2024, with completion expected in 2027. The contract encompasses consulting services, including the development of the project's terms of reference and technical specifications.
