The Ministry of Public Works has announced a tender for a desalination plant in the Panul sector, Coquimbo, Chile.

The envisaged plant is anticipated to boast a capacity of 1,200 liters per second, catering to the needs of 540,000 individuals. This initiative ensures a consistent drinking water supply for the Coquimbo-La Serena conurbation and facilitates the distribution of desalinated water to Ovalle. The Ministry intends to kick off the initial phase of a desalination plant system in 2024, involving the construction of four plants to address the escalating water scarcity issue.

This comprehensive project, slated for tender in 2024, encompasses an investment of US$300 million and is slated for launch by 2029. Furthermore, the installation of three desalination plants is in the pipeline to provide water to the Rural Health Services in the provinces of Limarí, Choapa, and Quilimarí, involving an investment of approximately US$209 million.
