The City of Los Angeles' Bureau of Engineering is soliciting fee proposals for Professional Design Review Services for the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) Expansion and Renovation Project.
First opened to the public in 1971, the expansion and renovation of the convention center has been proposed multiple times in recent years, with existing facilities seen as too small to attract major events, poorly laid out and lacking contiguous space. A Request for Information (RFI) was published in May 2016 considering the procurement of private partners to undertake the project.
In May last year, the operator of the center, AEG Facilities, submitted a proposal for a US$1.2 billion expansion that would add more than 1.2 million square feet of space, including 250,000 square feet of meeting rooms and 800,000 square feet of contiguous exhibition space. The proposal also seeks to redevelop a plaza on site into a landscaped garden and event space that could be used for outdoor exhibitions and receptions.
AEG proposed to structure the project as a public-private partnership (P3), volunteering to privately finance the US$500 million construction cost with development partner Plenary.
It is unknown whether this technical services tender relates to this proposal specifically, or a more general expansion and renovation project. The submission deadline is 13 February 2019.
