The Transportation Investment Corporation in Canada has selected Cowi as technical consultant for the George Massey Tunnel replacement PPP project in British Columbia.
The contract is valued at CAD15 million (US$11.77 million). It involves the provision of reference concepts and geotechnical underpinning for the new development. The consultant will also design flood control systems to mitigate the climate risk for the tunnel.
The new eight-lane tunnel will feature three general-purpose traffic lanes and one dedicated bus lane in each direction as well as a bi-directional bicycle path. Cowi will be responsible for design and supervision works for removal of the original four-lane tunnel, constructed in 1959.
