Supreme Court of India has lifted the stay order of Bombay High Court from tendering process of privatization of electricity distribution lines in Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman, and Diu. All three are union territories located in Gujarat state. The transaction involves tendering a 51% stake in a distribution company (DISCOM) responsible for power transmission.
Earlier Torrent Power emerged as the highest bidder for the stake with a bid of INR5.50 billion (US$74.26 million). Torrent power will be responsible to distribute nearly 25 BU of power to over 3.8 million customers and cater to a peak demand of over 5,000 MW.
