The construction works for the Regiotram de Occidente railway line in Bogotá, Colombia has finally started. Two years after the planned date for the start of construction owing to the problems of the pandemic that delayed the entrance of the Chinese Consortium, the work begins at 5th km in Bogotá. The project is expected to be finished in its entirety in 3 years.
The Regiotram de Occidente is the first commuter train in Colombia to operate on a 100% electric system, connecting residents of the municipalities of Facatativá, Madrid, Funza, and Mosquera with Bogotá.
