The Government of Sri Lanka has announced the re-establishment of the National Agency for Public Private Partnership (NAPP).
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in the interim budget speech, stated that the NAPP will identify and encourage investment from the public and private sectors. Until the end of its activity about two years ago, NAPP replaced the Public-Private Partnership Division under the Ministry of Finance. Previously NAPP was supported by the World Bank, which had committed US$25 million to the agency. The independent agency held legal, administrative, and financial powers.
The President stated that LKR250 million (US$691 thousand) will be allocated from the budget for the implementation of the NAPP. However, he did not specify the details, and it is not known whether the new agency will have similar powers and scope as the old one.
