The group led by Spanish state-owned rail company Renfe and in which Obrascon Huarte Lain SA participates will be awarded the 6 billion euro ($8.25 billion) contract to build a high speed rail link between Mecca and Medina, El Confidencial reported, citing two unidentified people with knowledge of the matter.The 450-km high-speed railway will reduce the distance between Makkah and Jeddah to half an hour and between Jeddah and Madinah two hours.Saudi Railways Organization (SRO)
received the technical and financial offers of Phase 2 of Haramain High Speed Rail Project (HHR) in July 2010.
