The provincial government of South Africa along with the City of Tshwane and project developer Balwin Properties haves announced that the implementation of Mooikloof mega residential city PPP is under process.
The first phase project includes the development of about 50,000 apartments with schools, shops, and offices along with necessary infrastructure. The project will be developed under one of the 62 Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) gazetted at the end of July 2020.
The Mooikloof Integrated Development has a total project value of over ZAR 84 billion (US$ 5.06 billion), which will be developed in phases. The development will follow the green building principles and will make optimal use of green belts and green spaces for residential recreation.
The spatial design will follow the 40/40/40 principle. Which means that most people are housed 40 kilometers from employment opportunities, as a result, they spend over 40 minutes traveling to and from work and spend over 40% of their incomes on transport expenses. In many cases, those affected are the poor who live in 40m2 houses.
