Rail Baltic has announced a contract signing for the construction of the Ülemiste terminal building in Tallinn, Estonia.

The contract was signed by Rail Baltic Estonia, GRK Eesti AS and GRK Suomi OY in the amount of EUR27.2 million (US$29.6 million). Project work includes rebuilding the existing Ülemiste railway infrastructure to make room for the future 1435 mm gauge Rail Baltica railway. It is planned to demolish almost 16.3 km of existing tracks and instead build more than 8 km of new tracks with a gauge of 1520 mm. According to the contract, most of the work will be completed over the next year and fully completed by 2026. GRK Eesti AS and GRK Suomi OY must ensure that the reconstruction is completed on time.

The project works include the construction of tracks and embankments, the installation of a contact network and the construction of a traffic control system, power supply and lighting of the station area. The scope of work covers the reconstruction of engineering networks crossing the railway and the Kantsi viaduct. At present, the procurement of civil works for the second phase of the construction of the Ülemiste unified terminal is being evaluated, i.e. the construction of under-rail support structures, with the help of which the underground floor of the terminal and other related railway structures will be built.

Before the construction of new railways, the construction of facilities is planned, which will begin after the demolition of the existing railway.
