The obstacle with the amendments to the Concessions Act has been dropped by the parliament of Bulgaria and now, the Concessions Act is in waiting for the approval of the President. Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) is against the changes in the Concessions Act and insists that the airport should not be given to a concessionaire.
The concession will have a new extension date for the submission of bids if the Concessions Act is not promulgated.
Located 10km from Sofia city center, the airport handled around 6.5 million passengers in 2017, a 30.3% increase from the previous year. It has two terminals, with the selected concessionaire to deliver a third.
