The city of Antwerp has selected six international design teams for the final stage of a competition to design an extension to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp, Belgium.

The six chosen to develop their proposals for the museum building over the next few months are:

  • Superstructure Architecture and Christ & Gantenbein (Switzerland)
  • DRDH Architects and Jamie Fobert Architects (UK)
  • NoAarchitecten (Belgium) and EM2N Architekten AG (Switzerland) and Sergison Bates Architects (UK)
  • OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen (Belgium) and SO–IL Office (USA)
  • Robbrecht and Daem Architects, Animal Donckblancke Architects and Laura Muyldermans (Belgium)

The upcoming construction will enable the museum to sustainably accommodate international exhibitions from diverse communities. Known as M HKA, the museum is currently situated within a repurposed grain silo in the northern part of the city. Previous expansion plans garnered interest from firms like Caruso St John, SANAA, and Thomas Phifer but were eventually terminated. The Flemish government is expected to reveal the contest winner in 2025.
