Sacyr concession, the project owner for Pamplona to Cucuta road concession, has achieved significant progress in the construction of the Pamplona and Pamplonita tunnels as well as the bypass road. Once complete, these tunnels will provide a better connection between the department of Norte de Santander and the interior of Colombia.
The first tunnel in Pamplona, Norte de Santander is part of Functional Unit 1 of the project and is a 1.4 km-long modern structure, that will speed up mobility and benefit five municipalities in the department. As of September 2021, the construction works for the Pamplona tunnel is 77.21% complete with waterproofing and coating work are underway. Located near Pamplonita, the 1.06 km long second tunnel is part of Functional Unit 3 and is 17.89% complete.
The contraction phase of the Pamplona-Cúcuta project is 46.79% complete, with about 84 active work fronts. The project aims to improve the conditions for the transport of cargo and passengers and reduce operating costs.
