The Government of Seychelles is planning to develop a Waste-to-energy (WTE) Project in Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles archipelago.

The project will produce energy from approximately 50,000 tonnes of waste and will also reduce the amount of solid waste going to landfills in the archipelago by 80%.

The project will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 will last 8 months and includes a site visit, whereas Phase 2 will last 18 months and involves the recruitment of a private company. The WTE project is financially supported by International Finance Corporation (IFC).
