The Ministry of Finance of the government of Israel has announced that it has received seven Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) for the design, construction, financing and operation of a desalination plant at Sorek.

The plant will produce approximately 200 million cubic meters of drinkable water per year and is scheduled to be completed in 2023. It will add to the existing 150 million cubic meter/year desalination plant at Sorek, which has been in operation since 2013, and increase the production of desalinated water in Israel by approximately 25%.

The seven interested teams are:

  1. Hutchison Water (Singapore), operator of the existing Sorek desalination plant
  2. IDE Technologies (Israel), owner of Sorek 1
  3. GES - Global Environmental Solutions Ltd. (Israel)
  4. PMEC, a unit of China Harbour Engineering Company
  5. SUEZ (France)
  6. Acciona (Spain) and Allied Holdings (Israel)
  7. Aqualia (Spain) and Water Planning for Israel Ltd. (WPI)

The SOQs will be examined by a cross-ministerial committee. The government has not disclosed when it plans to move on to the next phase of the tender, the Request for Proposals (RFP).
