The Expressway Authority of Thailand has begun the second phase of public hearings for the construction of a sea bridge linking the mainland to Koh Samui.
The proposed toll bridge, including a 25-km stretch over the Gulf of Thailand, is part of a 37-km infrastructure project to enhance links between Don Sak in Surat Thani and Khanom. The route is expected to improve accessibility to the renowned island resort.
Public consultations are scheduled in Koh Samui, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Surat Thani from July 15 to 17, 2024, focusing on the bridge’s proposed location—a key aspect influenced by the initial round of hearings that evaluated seven potential sites. The construction was initially slated for 2028, but it has been rescheduled to begin in 2029, with the bridge's completion targeted for 2033.
