São Paulo state, in Brazil, through its governor Geraldo Alckmin, has announced a new batch of public private partnership (PPP) projects.

The program will include highways, inter-municipal bus systems, metros and airports. According to the state mobility program, a total of R$10.5 billion (US$2.81 billion) is outlined for state highway concessions, R$2.6 billion (US$696.5 million) for inter-municipal bus systems, R$200 million (US$53.6 million) for metro works, and R$91 million (US$24.3 million) for airports.

More concretely this transportation infrastructure program includes:

• Four new lots of highways totaling 2217 km. The highways link São Paulo to the neighboring states of Minas Gerais and Paraná. It is expected that the tender processes will be launched in April 2016.

• Inter-municipal bus systems around 5 cities: Campinas, Ribeirão Preto, Bauru, São José do Rio Preto and Santos. The concessions expect to increase the capacity of bus routes by 30%.

• São Paulo metro Line 5 and Line 17. The tender processes to hire consultants to conduct technical studies for the concession have already been launched. The tender process for the projects are expected to be issued by 2016.

• A lot of five business-use airports: Comandante Rolim Adolfo Amaro, in Jundiaí; Arthur Siqueira, in Bragança Paulista; Campinas/Amarais, in Campinas; Gastão Madeira, in Ubatuba; and the airport of Itanhaém. The concession period will be 30 years. The tender process for the projects are expected to be launched by 2016.

Last month we reported that Invepar sold a 10 % stake in the  São Paulo/Guarulhos-Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport to Airports Company South Africa SOC Limited (ACSA) The airport is the main international airport serving São Paulo. It was the busiest airport in Latin America by passenger traffic (39,573,000 in 2014).
