The State of São Paulo in Brazil has launched the first phase of its housing project called Nossa Casa.
The first phase covers the construction and development of up to 26,735 housing units in more than 120 municipalities in the State with an estimated investment cost of about BRL1 billion (US$240 million) under a public-private partnership scheme.
The project will be built by Nossa Casa-CDHU in partnership with the Caixa Economica Federal. For 114 municipalities, 11,000 units will built which will be granted to individuals whose monthly income are within the minimum wages. The units will be completed by 2021.
An additional 15, 735 units will be built in 24 municipalities under the Our Home-Support mode that aims to support entities and companies. The State government will provide subsidies to the participating families.
The third modality of the program, Nossa Casa-Price Social, enables the construction of private housing with reduced prices that will serve the families with income within the minimum wage.
