The Government of the State of São Paulo has announced the signing of a technical cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure that should lead to progress in the tender process of the Intercity North Axis train (ITC), which will connect the capital of São Paulo and Campinas in Brazil.
The tender announcement depends on agreements with ANTT (National Land Transport Agency) and DNIT (National Department of Transport Infrastructure). With the extension of the MRS concession, there was a division of tracks between Jundiai and Barra Funda to allow the Intercidades train to operate. The Intercity Eixo Norte train should offer three services: Line 7-Rubi between Palmeiras-Barra Funda and Francisco Morato, the Intermetropolitan Train, between Francisco Morato and Campinas and the express service itself. The length of the railway passenger line is 101 km.
The tender for the ICT North Axis project will be released in 2023. The investments in the project amount to BRL10.2 billion (US$1.9 billion).
