Uruguay's court of auditors has finally approved the award of the Ferrocarril Central PPP project to a team formed by Saceem, Berkes, SACYR and Groupe NGE.
The project is valued at US$825 million and it is considered one of the most important rail projects in the country in recent years.
The Ferrocarril Central project is a public-private partnership to upgrade the 273 km Montevideo — Paso de Los Toros route. The tendering process took place in April 2018. The project includes design, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of the railways between the port of Montevideo and Paso de Los Toros on basis of lack of transparency in the bidding process.
As we recently informed, Acciona challenged the Ministry of Transport and Public Works' decision to disqualify it from the tender process but its complaints were dismissed.
