National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) in Colombia has announced that 99% of works for the 260 meters long Boquerón viaduct have been completed, and it is expected to be operational in the coming months. The viaduct is part of the Rumichaca-Pasto road project which connects the dual carriageway in the San Juan district, in Ipiales, with the Aldea de María district in the municipality of El Contadero.
The viaduct is part of Functional Unit 1 of the road corridor, which runs from the Rumichaca International Bridge to the La Josefina village. Unit 1 is completed by 79.3% and once finished it will connect a dual carriageway from San Juan to the village of Aldea de María, in the municipality of El Contadero (8 km), and the operation and maintenance of the existing road from Rumichaca to Josefina (25 km).
Functional Unit 2 is also under construction, which includes 12 km of totally new road between the village of Aldea de María (El Contadero) to the village of El Rosario (Iles), and the operation and maintenance of the road existing between the paths La Josefina (El Contadero) and Pilcuán (Imués). This unit has achieved progress of 79.3%.
The functional unit 3, 4, and 5 are already completed and under operations.
