The Victorian Government in Australia has finalized the route for stage 1 of the Suburban rail loop project in Melbourne. The route will start at Southland Shopping Centre which is one of the six stations to be developed under the project. Stage 1 of the project will also involve 26 km of twin-bore tunnels between Cheltenham and Box Hill. The project is envisioned to connect every major rail station between Frankston and Werribee via Melbourne Airport.
The estimated investment value for stage 1 pf the project is AUD 2.2 billion (US$ 1.62 billion). Stage 1 of the project is scheduled to commence the works in 2022.
