Ferrovial, in consortium with Acciona, has built a 29.7-km highway that is a continuation of the Pan-American Highway through the city of Chimbote, in northern Peru.
The new road will relieve traffic congestion in the municipality and will reduce the time required to complete the route by approximately 65%, from two hours to 40 minutes. The project required an investment of PEN 600 million (US$ 161.5 million) and it has been executed in 2 years and 9 months, 3 months ahead of schedule. In addition to the main roadway, the project included the construction of ancillary infrastructure such as two bridges, three traffic circles, six underpasses, frontage roads and infrastructure to carry irrigation water from one side of the road to the other. Drones were used during construction to detect areas for improvement, optimize resources, and enhance health and safety.
