The transport department of the city of Rio de Janeiro has kick-started a public consultation process for a car park concession.
The project consists of the implementation and management of up to 37,760 rotary public parking spaces. The concession contract is for a period of 15 years.
A consortium composed of Portugal's Intelimotion and Planos Engenharia submitted studies that were used by the City in the final modeling design. The purpose of the project is to implement an intelligent system for automatic control of the parking spaces through "computerized electronic equipment".
The Procedure for Expressions of Interest (PMI) was published on June 5 2013. Other companies showed interest in conducting feasibility studies (Hora Park, CCR, Synthesis, and Construtora Zadar).
The project has two objectives, the first is to increase the flow of traffic and creating alternatives of parking spaces through the elimination of parking spaces in the densest regions, and the second is to encourage the use of public transport.
The winning bidder will be the one that offers the highest annual payment. Interested parties may submit their comments, concerns and questions about the documents until 14 February 2014.
