The City of Calgary has issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) to private developers for the CAD 4.9 billion (USD 3.7 billion) Green Line stage 1 LRT project in Calgary. The Green Line will comprise a 20 km 14-station light rail transit (LRT) system.
The first phase is expected to run from 16 Avenue N in Crescent Heights to 126 Avenue SE in Shepard, running through downtown Calgary. The first stage will require the construction of eight major bridges and four tunnels, including a 4 km tunnel under the city centre, from 20 Avenue N to Macleod Trail. Additionally, three park-and-ride facilities will be developed at Lynnwood/Millican, Douglas Glen, and Shepard; including a new depot to be built north of 126 Avenue SE to house the 70 low-floor LRVs needed to operate the route.
The stage 1 of the project will be split into two contracts:
Segment 1: 4 Street S.E. to 126 Avenue S.E.
Segment 2: 16 Avenue N to 4 Street S.E.
The RFQ is issued for Segment 1. This contract includes approximately 16 kilometres of the Green Line project from 4 Street S.E. to 126 Avenue S.E. and includes the Shepard Maintenance & Storage Facility.
The Green Line is a multi-billion dollar investment in Calgary's future that will provide more options for Calgarians to move around the city. As the city grows, there is a need to make balanced investment choices to ensure Calgarians from all backgrounds can live, work and play sustainably and affordably. The Green Line will be essential to managing Calgary's growth and transportation needs in a sustainable manner that maintains the city's livability and economic attraction.
The Green Line project team is hosting applicants meeting webinar on August 20, 2019. The applicants will be given an overview of the project and requirements of the RFQ, as well as the opportunity to ask questions prior to responding to the RFQ.
The deadline to submit a response to the RFQ is October 24, 2019.
