The ministry of sports in India has launched a request for proposal (RFP) seeking a private developer for redevelopment works for Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The objective is to provide world-class standards for sports conforming to standards of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), World Athletics, and other such international sports bodies. The capacity of the stadium would be 60,000 seats. The scope of the works involves the development of an indoor weightlifting auditorium, three football fields, two athletic tracks, two badminton halls, a table tennis hall, an archery training zone, and other sports facilities.
The project might be developed on design, build, finance, operate, and transfer basis. The estimated investment value for the project is INR 78,530 million (US$ 1.03 billion).
