The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued the Request for Proposals (RFP) to qualified companies and consortiums, which had expressed interest in the development of the Mirfa 2 (M2) Reverse Osmosis (RO) Independent Water Project (IWP) in the United Arab Emirates.
The project will use the Reverse Osmosis method to desalinate seawater and will produce up to 80 million gallons per day of potable water, enough to meet the water demand for over 140,000 households. This project will improve the security of the water supply in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In addition, the Mirfa 2 plant will increase system efficiency and maximize resilience, reduce the carbon intensity of the system, and support ongoing cost reduction initiatives in the sector by using competitive and efficient RO water desalination technology.
This RFP is being issued to bidders that had passed the qualification process following the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage. A total of 41 companies and consortiums submitted EOIs, but only 22 companies and consortiums have pre-qualified for the RFP stage. The deadline for responses is the first quarter of 2022.
