The government of Bolivia has launched a request for proposals for Viru Viru International airport in Santa Cruz. The project includes design, construction, operation, maintenance and financing of the Viru Viru international airport near Santa Cruz. Viru Viru International Airport has located 15 km from the center of Santa Cruz in the province of Warnes. The runway for the airport is 3,500 meters long and 45 meters.
The airport receives national, regional and international flights, connecting the country with countries in North America, the rest of South America and Europe. In 2016, the airport handled 2.48 million passengers and has been registering increased tenure in both the domestic and international passenger movement. Santa Cruz de la Sierra represents the central axis of the economic development of Bolivia and has been registering rapid growth, as well as the fact that other airports in the region have limitations for its expansion, the Government has proposed to improve the airport infrastructure.
