The City of Indio has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking 1 or more qualified private parties to grow its existing fiber optic network in California, USA.
The partnership aims to improve affordable broadband access and promote competition citywide. A private ISP will operate and sell internet services using the publicly owned fiber optic network. The arrangement involves lease payments, revenue sharing, grant application contributions, or new network construction by the city. The city is seeking experienced operators to collaborate on the development, completion, and retail operations of the fiber optic network. The network expansion includes approximately 29 miles of additional backbone fiber to serve businesses and residents. A qualified private partner should demonstrate expertise and proficiency in the following areas:
