The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to develop a 1.5 GW Al Ajban solar PV power project in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
A total of 43 companies and consortiums submitted EOIs, out of which 19 companies and consortiums qualified for the RFP stage. The selected bidder will be responsible for the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance, and ownership of the plant, and associated infrastructure. 40 % of the entity will be owned by the winning consortium while the rest of the stake is held by the Abu Dhabi Government. The EWEC and the developer will sign a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of the solar project.
The solar facility is expected to power 160,000 houses across UAE and will offset 6 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
Responses to the RFP are expected by the end of Q1 2023.
