The Ministry of Finance in Israel has launched a request for expression of interest (RFEOI) through inter-ministerial tenders committees seeking private sector partner for a desalination plant in Western Galilee. The project includes the construction and operation of a desalination plant located north of Acre city. The plant's output capacity to produce drinking water will be 100 million cubic meters per year. The plant will use reverse osmosis technology to desalinate water from the Mediterranean Sea near Golani Brigade's Shraga training base.
After the construction of this desalination plant is complete, there will be a total of seven desalination plants across Israel, they are expected to provide approx 85% to 90% of national household and municipal potable water needs.
