Infrastructure Ontario (IO) has invited two qualified Satellite Internet Service Providers (Satellite ISPs) to respond to a request for proposals (RFP) to deliver satellite internet service for approximately 43,000 homes and businesses across the province based on their relevant capacity and deployment experience in Ontario, Canada.
The Satellite Program aims to utilize advanced technology to deliver high-speed internet access to homes and businesses in rural Ontario that lack access to fiber optic or fixed wireless services. The selection of the two Satellite Internet Service Providers (ISPs), SpaceX Canada Corp. and Xplore Inc., followed a rigorous request for qualifications (RFQ) process initiated in August 2023. Criteria for selection encompassed technical, financial, and other prerequisites essential for executing a program of this magnitude and intricacy.
