Qatar airways to buy 60% stake in Rwanda International airport

Qatar Airways agreed to buy a 60% stake in Rwanda International Airport from the Rwanda Development Board.

Rwanda International Airport is located in the Bugesera district, about 25 km away from the capital Kigali. The Airport is currently is in the first stage of modification, after which it can accommodate about 7 million passengers per year. The second phase of the airport is expected to be completed by 2032, which will double the capacity of the airport to 14 million passengers per year.

Rwanda government has already signed a contract with Portuguese construction company Mota-Engil for the works of the airport. The construction cost is estimated at US$ 818 million. After investment from Qatar Airways, the government is considering to build a larger airport.
