The Public-Private Partnerships Authority (AAPP) of Puerto Rico is planning to launch a competition process to transfer all highways in the country to a private operator.
The concessions include highways from San Juan to Ponce (PR-52), Route 66 (between Carolina and Río Grande), as well as the routes that run between Humacao and Fajardo and the Martínez Nadal Expressway (PR-20), which runs from San Juan to the rural area of Guaynabo.
The new highway PPP concession could bring enough money to the public corporation ACT to settle its debt with the bondholders and bring these infrastructures to their optimal state. The Highway and Transportation Authority, Autoridad de Carreteras y Transportación (ACT) could collect at least US$2,254 million during the life of the PPP which would extend over 50 years.
