The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has announced that the Puerto Maldonado Wastewater Treatment Plant – PTAR is expected to be awarded in Q2 of 2025.

The project, with an investment of US$ 97 million, will benefit nearly 200,000 residents in Madre de Dios. It includes the design, financing, construction, and maintenance of wastewater systems in Puerto Maldonado, covering 192 km of sewage networks, expanding over 13,800 household connections, and constructing a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Additionally, the project ensures monitoring and control of permissible discharge values. The project aims to improve drinking water and sewage services in Puerto Maldonado, ensuring efficient and sustainable wastewater treatment. It will help decontaminate the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers, enhancing health and quality of life for nearly 200,000 residents. The 23-year PPP, co-financed by the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation (MVCS), includes measures to reduce investor risks.

To date, three bidders have prequalified for the tender: Tecnología Intercontinental, SAPI de CV, the Puerto Maldonado Sanitation Consortium and Copasa - Almar, but the tender has been extended until the end of February 2025, which could increase the number of interested companies.
