The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has announced that three bidders presented their technical and economic offers in the award process for the Puerto Maldonado Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Peru.

The project entails the installation and/or restoration of 171 km of sewage networks, expanding household connections to the drainage network by over 13,800, and establishing, operating, and maintaining a WWTP. The implementation of the WWTP is expected to enhance the health, environment, and quality of life for Puerto Maldonado residents by mitigating the incidence of diarrheal diseases through the treatment of city wastewater, thereby reducing pollution in the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers. The project requires an estimated investment of US$ 100 million, fully funded by the State through the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation (MVCS). PROINVERSIÓN emphasized that the WWTP initiative forms part of a comprehensive State initiative to expand water, sewage, wastewater treatment, and storm drainage coverage in Puerto Maldonado. The award process is slated for late June or early July 2024, employing a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with a concession period of 23 years.
