The Government of the State of Alagoas with support from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) has launched a public consultation for the concession of water supply and sewage services in the regional blocks B (Agreste and Sertão) and C (Litoral and Zona da Mata) in Brazil.

The new project covers 89 municipalities and a population of 1.937 million people. The State Government and BNDES are working for the auction to take place in December 2021. The concession is expected to include 49 municipalities with 1.179 million residents in block B and 40 municipalities with 758,000 people in block C. With the aim to provide an efficient water supply and sewage collection system, the BNDES has estimated an investment of BRL3.6 billion (US$703.6 million). The concessionaires will have to invest in the expansion and improvement of collection systems, expand the reserve capacity, expand the control of losses and fix irregular connections, implement a collection network and sewage treatment stations in municipalities with more than a thousand inhabitants, among others.

The deadline to submit the suggestions, opinions, or criticisms is August 13, 2021. It must be sent to the following email:  consultapublicablocosbc@seinfra.al.gov.br.
