The Government of Ireland has launched a public consultation process for the Celtic Interconnector concession.
The concession envisions the installation of a submarine High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electricity cable as well as a direct telecommunications fiber optic link between Ireland and France. The HVDC transmission line will facilitate 700 MW of electricity transfer between both countries.
The public consultation for the project is open until April 27, 2022. The project is being developed by EirGrid and Réseau de Transport d’Electricité (RTE). The project feasibility study was conducted in 2009 and if approved it is scheduled to be in operation by 2026.
