The Kerala state government has dropped the proposal to set up feeder airports in Idukki, Wayanad and Guruvayur.
The plan to establish feeder airports was abandoned due to public protests against land acquisition. These projects aimed to boost tourism in Idukki and Wayanad in the Western Ghats, with a focus on enhancing the tourism sector and promoting pilgrimage tourism in Guruvayor. In Idukki, land was designated in Anakkara, covering 450 ha, while in Wayanad, the identified area was in Panamaram. Despite a feasibility study in 2009 and a visit by a delegation from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), there has been limited progress on these projects.
